Now that Claire had a baby, she found herself having to pour herself coffee a few times a day to stay awake.
Truth be told, though, Nestor was certainly not the most difficult baby to take care of. He cried a few times a night, but for the most part he was a pretty heavy sleeper. When Claire put him in the swing and turned it on, he fell asleep almost instantly. She loved to watch him sleep – he was so precious.
Claire and Glenn never left Nestor alone. Even on Saturdays when they took visits to the laundromat, they took their baby with them.
Every chance they got, the two lovers spent time together and had fun because they didn’t have many chances at that with Nestor around.
Domestic abuse! Not really; Glenn would never hurt his lovely fiance.
Claire and Glenn decided that Elba Village wasn’t the place for them. There simply weren’t enough people. They packed their things and moved to Appaloosa Plains.
Glenn was especially excited.
As he was working on his writing skills, he heard the doorbell ring.
Some neighbors had come to welcome them! What a friendly town. They were going to like it here for sure.
Although it did seem to rain a lot, the landscape was beautiful.
They also found a really wonderful babysitter, Jacoby Grubb.
The night after they moved was Nestor’s birthday. He grew into a cute little toddler.
That night was also Claire’s birthday!
She began having worries about her life. She was so old! Where had the time gone? Her whole life had gotten away from her with such speed, and she hadn’t even married yet. The thought made her go a bit mad. In a split second decision, she decided that she needed a haircut. She grabbed some scissors, went to the bathroom mirror and feverishly went to work. It ended up a bit choppy, but it worked for her. She knew there was nothing she could do about it further and accepted it. She even liked it a bit. It represented a new Claire, a changing Claire. She was never exactly sure what that had meant, but as her general attitude called for, she decided it was a good thing.
Nestor was the cutest little kid.
And he had the cutest little dad.
They kept Claire down to earth for the most part during her mid-life crisis, but she couldn’t help trying to recapture her youth.
One day, she had a sick day from work. Although Claire hated missing work, she loved spending time with Nestor.
She spend the whole day sneezing and teaching him his skills.
That night was Friday which mean pizza night. Glenn and Claire were gobbling up pizza and having nice conversation, when all the sudden Claire thought she saw something outside the window.
“Is that an alien?!”
But when Glenn looked behind him, there was nothing there. He made a teasing remark about her going crazy and said he’s going to bed.
“Are you coming?” he asked, obviously in the mood for some fun.
“No, I think I’m going to go see what that was,” she said, uninterested in his flirtation. After a few moments of silence had passed, she noticed his pouting face. She smiled at him and said, “I’ll be up in a moment.”
He smiled at her like a child whose parent consented to getting him candy from the store, and headed upstairs. She giggled and warily headed to the front door, opening it.
And sure enough, there she was. A real life alien, just like the ones in the stories!
Opposed to running away in terror, Claire shook her hand and welcomed the alien to her planet. The alien’s name was Amki Exipelh.
After making sure Amki wouldn’t enslave her and her family, they had a riveting conversation about both their planets. Apparently, Amki’s people wanted to study humans, but they did not like to have to do it by force. If everyone were as friendly as Claire, no one would wake up with weird incisions in their belly.
After some really interesting conversation, Amki said goodbye and materialized into her spacecraft, blasting off to who-knows-where.
After such a fantastic night, Claire forgot to pay the bills the next morning.
Oops. Fortunately, the repolady didn’t take too much.
Before they knew it, Spooky Day had arrived.
Coincidentally it was also Nestor’s birthday!
Glenn found this very funny for some reason.
What a dashing boy!
And that dashing cake! Mmmm.
Claire, being the socialite that she is, threw a Costume Party. The boys looked so funny in their costumes.
Nestor got to meet Amki the alien!
Unfortunately, it began to rain, so he wasn’t able to go trick-or-treating.
Nestor’s first day of school was nerve-racking for everyone. He was very friendly, though, so the day was much easier than he thought it would be.
It was raining and cold one day, but the whole family had to work together to rake up the leaves because winter was the next day.
And they did it, too!
Nestor was tired out of his wits from it.
He was doing well in school, which made his parents quite proud.
Amki let Claire interview her for a story. The story was a huge hit, and Claire got promoted to anonymous source handler.
They had her stay for dinner after the interview. She was very hesitant to try human food, commenting on how odd it was to mix liquids and solids together.
When she finally tried it though, she couldn’t get enough. She cleaned her plate and had seconds, asking if she could take the rest home to her comrades. Of course, Glenn happily obliged. He would be the first human to cook for aliens!
Amki and Claire’s family became quite good friends. Nestor always liked to brag to his schoolmates that his best friend was an alien – and they definitely were the best of friends.
She even taught him to use some of her advanced technology to create an alien snowman.
So now, since Nestor was old enough to take care of himself and Claire and Glenn had some time on their hands, they decided it was finally time to tie the knot.
The wedding was absolutely beautiful. Glenn couldn’t take his eyes off of his lovely bride.
And the night after the wedding, his bride became even lovelier.
